The company, which also is backed by Deerfield Management, said it will use the new capital to bring on more providers and women-focused specialties, as well as expand its technology offerings. The company also plans to build a flagship women’s health practice in DC that will integrate OB-GYN, primary care, mental wellness and other health services. Jim Pieri, the head of private healthcare at BlueMountain, and Ameya Agge, managing director at BlueMountain, will join the company’s board of directors. The news follows a year of rapid growth for the company, which acquired Heartland Women’s Healthcare in the Midwest and Pacify, developer of a telehealth app offering on-demand support to new mothers. http://www.advantiahealth.com https://www.advantiahealth.com/advantia-health-announces-45m-investment-to-accelerate-expansion/ __________________________ o Report: White House to Name SBA’s Maria Roat as Deputy Federal CIO Washington, DC — The White House plans to tap Maria Roat, currently the chief information officer (CIO) of the Small Business Administration (SBA), as the next deputy federal CIO, Nextgov reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter. If she accepts the position, she would succeed Margie Graves, who left the Office of Management and Budget at the end of last year. The position is a key one for the government, in charge of leading all IT policy. Technical.ly DC first reported the news, which the company confirmed on Twitter. Empactful Capital led the round, which also included participation from HealthX Ventures, Sunwater Capital and New Dominion Angels. (TEDCO) said it has awarded $2.6 million in new funding through its Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), which aims to accelerate promising technologies with commercial potential from five area universities. So far this fiscal year, the program has awarded grants to 19 projects, including an integrated onboard charger for electric vehicles from the University of Maryland College Park; an improved hybrid vertical axis wind turbine from the University of Maryland Baltimore County; a therapeutic nanoparticle platform for Fn14-Positive cancers from the University of Maryland, Baltimore; and, from Johns Hopkins University, a technology for improved drug delivery to the eye and engineered bispecific antibodies for targeted inhibition of cancer metastasis. Laster will lead all aspects of the company’s product direction and strategy across its product, and research and development organizations.
